[there's very subtle rustling on the other side of the creek, like an animal maybe, or like someone else is doing the same thing]

creeps out to the water. pretending he doesnt see the rustling]

[there's a lag of like a minute and then WAY MORE OBVIOUS RUSTLING for like ten seconds, and a couple of muffled, masculine shouts that aren't familiar at all. and then Zeno bursts out wordlessly, eyes wide, looking at Kano with clear recognition.]

Ah, hello there. Seems I'm the one lost from home this time?

[defendless]

[... a kind of weak laugh, and zeno wades through the creek toward him without a second thought.] No kidding. How long have you been here?

Ten minutes?

Not so bad, then. Zeno was worried you might've been lost for days or something... [the creek is pretty shallow, and he crosses easily there's some whispering and shifting in the underbrush he emerged from, but he seems to be ignoring that for now]

I'd be dead in a hole somewhere if that was the case.

[glances back at the underbrush]

Good thing you found us, then. [calling out over his shoulder] He's a friend! [the bushes still, then a squirrel runs out to the creekside, and a man in a mask comes out after her, scooping her up before she can dive into it, then goes very still, like he did not exactly mean to reveal himself.]

Ah, what fancy friends you have. Hello there, I'm Kano.

[shin ah thinks about that for like five seconds then turns to go back to the underbrush, only to be stopped by some legitimately fancy fucker exiting the brush after him, looking a little harried.] "Zeno, dear, was elbowing me really necessary? It's a pleasure to meet any friend of his, of course." [zeno grins cheerfully, and shifts so he's not between kano and the rest of them anymore, slinging an arm over kano's shoulders] Sorry, Ryokuryuu! Zeno was in a hurry.

Oh, the infamous family.

[leaning into Zeno, trying to relax. its not working yet, he's tense. but surely he'll get there]

Mmhm! The rest are at our camp right now, we were just getting water. [The green-haired fellow raises an eyebrow at the admission that Kano knows about them, but smiles all friendly and grabs onto the fluff attached to Shin Ah's mask so he can't escape.] "I do hope our troublemaker of a brother hasn't caused you too much trouble, kind sir." [zeno snuggles up to Kano's side, as if trying to radiate calming vibes] Zeno will have you know Zeno has been very good lately. "That just worries me more, you-" [then Jae-ha cuts off suddenly, glancing at Kano.]

...Zeno, have you been a worry to these good boys? For shame, for shame! Be more like me who never worries anyone!

[these are good snuggles and his heart rate is slowing. finally]

...Zeno can't believe he has united all of these fusspots. It's silly to worry about Zeno in the first place, you know. [turns to greenie] Ryokuryuu, you don't need to worry about hiding things about Zeno in front of our guest. He already knows. [Jae-ha's jaw actually drops for a moment before he shakes himself back into a smooth smile.] "Well then, our old man really must have worried you as well. Let's get that water and head back, shall we? Kija will throw a fit if he misses a chance to meet a friend of Zeno's."

Oh yeah, I guess you did. Tell me all that. Didn't you. Ah.

[leans heavier into Zeno for a moment to gather some strength and then makes himself draw away to start towards the others]

Kija will be disappointed, I'm the least exciting of the friends Zeno made. Maybe next time Zeno will receive a more impressive guest.

[Jae-ha finally lets go of Shin Ah, who seems to have given up on fleeing, and is instead actually facing Kano now, still holding the squirrel that DESPERATELY wants to greet this new person. Jae-ha laughs lightly.] "Kija won't be disappointed at all." [Zeno walks side by side with Kano, letting him escape actual contact but doggedly staying in Supportive Distance.] Hakuryuu is a very excitable boy, you see. He'll want to know everything.

Maybe I can just talk about my cute, more fancy boyfriend instead?

[Jae-ha snickers, and Zeno grins.] Oh, he'd get so flustered! He's a very pure boy.

[Jae-ha nods agreeably.] "There are a few of those in this party of ours. Of course, those of us that aren't are very protective." [they're across the creek! Ao the squirrel is set free to launch herself bodily at Kano, rotund little form heading straight for his face.] Oop! [Zeno catches her]

[Zeno scolds her softly.] Careful, young lady, you could have knocked him into the creek. [she seems to pout briefly, but scurries up Zeno's arm to perch on his shoulder and greet Kano from there, offering him an acorn.] "Ahh, she's taken a liking to you. Now you've been properly vetted."
